Technology At Work

Connecting Water Use to the Technology Resources Necessary to Conserve

The ApHinity name was derived from a suite of proprietary technologies that work based on the premise of natural chemical affinity. Chemical affinity is the attractive force between substances that cause them to enter into or remain in chemical combination. These types of technologies play an important role in solving challenging air and water issues by harnessing the power of the natural processes. Examples of these technologies are:

Engineered Resin Technology: Engineered Resin Technology is the use of specialty resins uniquely designed to remove specific ions from water that limit the efficient use of the water source. With these ions being selectively removed, the water source can be utilized to optimal efficiency.

Forward Osmosis: FO utilizes specialty membranes that work by the natural process of osmosis. Engineered brine draws pull pure water across a membrane which are then filtered by reverse osmosis, thus producing a clean stream of water. The primary benefit of FO is the low membrane driving pressure significantly reduces fouling potential compared to traditional reverse osmosis technology.

Chlorine Dioxide: Chlorine dioxide has many uses in water and air processes. Chlorine dioxide is most often used for disinfection of water. However, ApHinity engineers utilize it in additional ways such as odor control, NOx and SO2 abatement, powdery mildew mitigation, air disinfection applications, and specialty membrane treatment.

Infrastructure Implementation

Moving and Storing Water

Infrastructure Implementation
Infrastructure Implementation

Successful water conservation project engineering consists of several integral components. The specific technology used to treat the water is only one of many parts of a solution. The efficient process of capturing, moving, and storing water is equally important as the chosen water treatment technology. For this reason ApHinity has invested extensive resources into the infrastructure implementation, engineering design, project management, controls automation, remote monitoring, and ongoing project support. This includes stamped engineering design drawings and construction oversight. The ability to bring all of these engineering disciplines together to drive a successful water conservation project to completion is very challenging. The designers, engineers, and technicians at ApHinity have over 100 years of combined industry experience that is relied upon to complete a project. If you have a potential water conservation project or desire to pursue one, please contact your local ApHinity Representative.

Some examples of potential water reuse projects are:

  • Waste Water Recovery
  • WFI Still Blow Down Recovery
  • Tempered Boiler Blow Down Recovery
  • RO Reject Recovery
  • Produced Water Recovery
  • Heavy Metals Removal
