Oxidant Generation Technologies

The Right Technology for any Given Application

ApHinity offers a comprehensive suite of on-site generated oxidant technologies with the primary purpose of being able to implement the right technology for any given application. This includes single-chemical electrolytic generated chlorine dioxide (gas, liquid, and combination phase generation), high purity “on demand” electrolytic generated chlorine gas generation, on-site hypochlorite generation, mixed oxidant generation, and on-site high purity chloramine generation.

Electrolytic generation of gas and liquid phase chlorine dioxide from a single precursor chemical has many applications. Most commonly this is applied in agriculture, food and beverage, reverse osmosis and nanofiltration treatment, building fumigation, odor remediation, healthcare secondary disinfection, and NOx abatement applications. ApHinity is partnered with Dioxide Pacific to engineer and implement high purity electrolytic chlorine dioxide equipment, for gas, liquid, and combination gas/liquid phase chlorine dioxide production. Yes, one generator to produce on-site “on demand” high purity liquid chlorine dioxide while simultaneously producing high purity gas phase chlorine dioxide is possible and currently in use. The value of high purity electrolytic ClO2 production are the following benefits: near neutral pH solution, chlorine-free chlorine dioxide, highest purity, lowest contamination (chlorite, chlorate, and perchlorate) of all ClO2 generation methods, and lowest technology operating cost. Please contact ApHinity if you have an application for on-site generated single chemical chlorine dioxide generation.

Given the safety concerns around chlorine gas applications over the last 5 decades, why would ApHinity include a technology offering for on-demand, electrolytic chlorine gas generator? The answer is simple - Chlorate elimination. In the world of constantly evolving government regulations, new regulations are being implemented around the restriction of chlorates and perchlorates. Chlorates are the precursor to perchlorates which can be toxic to humans, thus the desire to limit or eliminate them. Various government regulations are actively being implemented around reducing or eliminating chlorate levels in water and food products. The only proven potable water approved disinfection technology that doesn’t contribute to chlorate production is chlorine gas (depending on water conditions such as pH, temperature, and holding time). At potable water treatment dosages and conditions, chlorine gas will not contribute to chlorate production, thus having a safe and economical method of generating chlorine gas on-site and “on demand” is highly beneficial. To address safety concerns, the ApHinity technology chlorine gas is generated under a vacuum (not under pressure) and is generated “on demand” with less than 0.2 lbs of available chlorine gas being stored inside the generator at any one time. This alleviates traditional safety concerns surrounding the decades long experience of using high pressure, chlorine gas cylinders for disinfection. If your company is looking for a technology to reduce or eliminate chlorate production from your product or water supply, please contact us to schedule a consultation to discuss your options.

Hypochlorite and mixed oxidant generators have been in use for many years to help reduce the degradation and handling issues associated with bleach. Bleach is a low purity, fast degrading chemical that loses effectiveness quickly in many applications, thus sometimes making its use impractical. An alternative solution is to install an on-site generator to produce liquid hypochlorite or mixed oxidants from salt brine. The equipment is affordable, reliable, cost effective, and safe alternative to traditional bleach solution.

There are three primary EPA approved solutions for disinfecting potable water: chlorine, chlorine dioxide, and chloramine. Chloramine is a more persistent potable water approved molecule by comparison to chlorine or chlorine dioxide and as such has garnered industry use in some applications. Every molecule has advantages and disadvantages, and chloramine is no different. Many municipalities are now requiring the use of chloramines for potable water disinfection as opposed to chlorine or chlorine dioxide. We believe having a comprehensive tool kit of solutions to solve a customer’s challenge is a tremendous benefit. As such, ApHinity can provide a high-purity generation technology for chloramine disinfectants if that is your requested preference.

There are countless uses for chemical oxidants in industry and having a comprehensive suite of technologies to solve any challenge is our goal at ApHinity. If you have an interest in any of the mentioned technologies, please fee free to contact us for an in-person consultation to see how ApHinity can partner to solve your challenge.
